Removals Overseas and Shipping: Developing Ecologically Friendly Packaging Materials
The many different types of shipping containers such as crates, boxes and pallets are important for the removals overseas and shipping industries. These containers carry and protect items during the journey from one point to another. Since there are millions of packages and containers sent all over the globe, disposing massive numbers of used containers becomes a problem.
That is why manufacturers of such packages are presently designing their shipping containers with environmental responsibility, sustainability, and recycling regulations in consideration. During the production of such containers, manufacturers consider some sort of “waste hierarchy” in the development process.
1. Prevention – the primary goal is to go zero waste, meaning, in removals overseas and vehicle shipping, packaging should be used only when absolutely needed.
2. Minimization – of course, since packaging protects the things inside the package, it is practically impossible not to use of these containers. So manufacturers design packaging materials that have less mass and volume than traditional systems.
3. Reusing – designing reusable packages is highly encouraged. Many manufacturers create extremely strong and durable boxes that can be used several times before they are finally destroyed due to stress.
4. Recycling – lots of manufacturers focus on creating recycled or recyclable packages. For instance, their packaging material may be made out of recycled paper or wood. After using, the packing material may be sent back to the manufacturer or to a recycling facility to be made into new packaging materials.
5. Energy recovery – some packaging materials used in removals overseas are impossible to reuse or recycle. Thus, manufacturers may design their packages so that the containers can be used in a waste-to-energy or refuse-derived fuel scheme instead of being disposed. The used material can be processed in certain facilities to produce fuel.
6. Disposal – This involves burning the the spent material or dumping it in a sanitary landfill. This is least preferred by manufacturers since packaging materials may contribute to the pollution of air (if burned) or formation of leachate, or garbage juice. (if dumped in a landfill).
