is Amtrak’s acela a joke?

it can go 150+ mph, high speed rail. but from boston to nyc, it takes 3 hr, 30 mins. ticket price: 100 each way. on amtrak train, its about 80 bucks and 4 hours.

but on a chinatown bus or megabus, its 15 bucks, and takes 4 hours, while the chinatown busses give a 15 minute break at a mcdonalds (so total traveling time is 3 hr 45 min)

if the acela travels that fast, but only can shave off 1/2 hr in travel time, but cost 5x as much, is this more of a joke and anything? i seen the high speed trains in europe, japan, and china, and they are very reliable and fast.

The Acela a joke? No, rather the operation thereof is. true the trains can operate near 150mph but seldom do. reasons are many. suffice to say its “human error” that precludes this one and only american high speed rail service to actually shine through to its potential. more focus should be given to the areas of operation, and public awareness. this asset could be brought to a whole other level if given the right attention. and if done so, you would see a dramatic drop in times between cities. comparable to that of jet travel. factually, the Acela would beat the airliners times. as for price, well, as you know this is america and Amtrak is the brain child of the US Govt. when money and the US Govt are used in one sentence, we all know what happens there!
