Eurail Train
Norway Train Reservations with Eurail Pass?
My friend is travelling from Oslo-Bergen by train, then back from Bergen-Voss, and taking the Flamsbana train back to Oslo(Flåm-Myrdal-Oslo) on a Eurail Youth pass. I would like to know if seat reservation is mandatory or optional on these trains with the Eurail pass, and if the seat can be reserved on board the train, or if there is a penalty to do this. Thanks!
I’ve never used a Eurail pass, but I have travelled on trains in Norway. Seat reservation is rare, usually only when travelling in 1st class or in a special carriage (quiet/work carriage etc.). Since the Eurail covers 2nd class travel, I’m pretty sure seat reservation isn’t even an option, much less mandatory. However, I’d contact the NSB: http://www.nsb.no/?lang=en_US and enquire directly.
