i called national rail enquiries a few times and have been told diferent things by the people i spoke to.they also keep you on the fone listening to silence for ages so it costs a fortune!

You’ve left it far too late to get a deal (which the £40 ticket sounds like). The cheapest for your family tomorrow is £96 Off peak Day return by Chiltern Trains from Moor Street – but that is in the 10.15, not arriving until 12.35. From New Street on Virgin the cheapest is £126 on the 9.50., arr Euston 11.14. It is always better to book as far ahead as possible and on line.
